In 1986, Glenn and his father, Buzz, worked along with Max White, and others who were active in the Washington County wood cutters, providing free voluntary service to the homebound disabled and elderly in Washington County.  In 1991, he and his father became members of the Oregon Territory Chapter of the American Dowsers.  In 1986, he received a certification as a Hypnotherapist.  Glenn served as a Grand Master in Aloha Grange 773 and was a member in good standing for 50 years.  He was very devoted to his grandchildren, Stephanie and Brandon.  He was interested in their activities and goals and observant of their good qualities and achievements.  Glenn tried to instilled the highest values and correct principles by being an exemplary example to them, showing respect and consideration of others.  The way he lived his life reflected the moral values he upheld.  Glenn strove to achieve balance and peace within his family throughout his life.

After the death of Glenn’s first wife, he met and fell in love with Rita Fay Stringer.  They shared a profound spiritual and emotional connection and on October 25, 2003, they were married.  During their marriage, the two fulfilled Glenn’s life-long dream of traveling  Over the past four years, they spent much of their time traveling in their RV.  One of Glenn’s favorite trips was to Alaska.  Glenn enjoyed the social life that came with RV’ing.  One of his joys was walking their dog, Princess, through the TT Preserves and interacting with the friends they met.  They became part of a awesome RV family.  He always enjoyed new adventures, and in the process, developed a new and wonderful circle of supportive friends.  During their RV adventures, Glenn and Rita Fay experienced many beautiful sites  They particularly loved the Oregon Coast, and frequented good fly fishing spots nestled in the country.  In 2005, Glenn attended his 50th Benson Class  Reunion; taking along their dear friend, Otto Arndt, who had celebrated 70 years since graduating Benson.

In November of 2007, Glenn’s health began to decline after heart surgery.  Though he suffered with health issues, he always tried to do his best.  Glenn was an ardent Republican and remained politically active throughout his life.  He was honored to be an American and stood for truth and justice for all.  He was a devoted and loyal husband to Rita Fay, who was honored to be his wife.  Their marriage survived joy, happiness, pain, and tears, each step strengthening the bond of love they shared.  With God as their center, they remained faithful to their marriage vows to the end.  Their connection will last for eternity.  Rita Fay will miss Glenn, as will their faithful animal companion, Princess, who still sleeps on Glenn’s shirt which lies at the foot of the bed.

Glenn is preceded in death by both of his parents, his first wife, Mary Jo, and his brothers, Dale and Duane.  Among those who grieve his loss, but hold him dear in their hearts, are his wife Rita Fay Shoultz, granddaughter Stephanie Frances Segerdahl, step-grandson Brandon Braun, his daughter and son-in-law Robin and Michael Segerdahl, step-daughter Babette Pierce, his two brothers Gary and Wayne Shoultz, along with other extended family members.

Glenn belonged to the Theosophical Society of America.  He believed in a nucleus of the universal brotherhood of humanity, without distinction of race, creed, gender, caste, national origin, or color.  He believed: Dust to dust, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, but the Spirit to the Absolute Spirit, of which it has always remained a part. As this body disintegrates, and the elements of which it was compounded return whence they came, so this Man passes Glenn Older0001into the abode of peace and rest which is his true home, and which he quitted for but a brief space in order to gather amid the experiences of earth-life, materials for his further growth. May we realize the consoling fact that what we call death is really birth, when the true man, freed from all limitations enters his rightful sphere. Let us not by tears and lamentations hold near to the earth those who would rise to indescribable bliss. Seeing that to all comes the same end, and that all must pass through the gates of death, may we so live that those gates may lead us to the Place of Peace. May all shadows vanish from the Valley of Death , and may it become for us the pathway leading to Life Celestial and glowing with the glory of Eternal Day God Bless us all!!!!!

A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland with a Celebration of Life to follow at 3:00 PM at Crown Memorial Center 412 Lancaster Dr NE Salem, OR.
