Isabel Centeno Carino

Isabel Centeno Carino was born in Angeles City, Pampanga, The
Philippine Islands to Guillerma Salunga Centeno and Luciano Centeno on
July 8, 1928, and peacefully passed away at age 90 on Jan. 7, 2019, of
natural causes in Portland, Oregon.
Preceding Isabel in death were 8 of her siblings. (Isabel was the youngest
of 10 children). Her husband Frank passed away in 1976. They married in
The Philippines on June 6, 1945. Surviving are son Ron (wife Kathy),
daughters Jeannette (husband Dan) and Jackie (husband Greg),
grandchildren Kristen (husband Bob), Aaron (wife Stephanie), Stephen,
and Ilyssa, great-grandchildren Darius, Kaila, Aaron, Damon and Brayden,
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Isabel, at age 17, left The Philippines and traveled to Portland via San
Francisco by ship in 1945, after WWII ended, to join her husband, who had
earlier been discharged from the US Army after fighting in the war in the
Pacific theater. Portland is where their three children were born and raised. Isabel was one of the Filipino war bride pioneers, and the last living one, to have settled in the Pacific NW. Her lifelong passion was dancing, especially Filipino cultural dances, Hawaiian hula, and ballroom dancing.
Over the years she did extensive travelling in Europe. Isabel and her
husband were founding members of the Filipino-American Assoc. of
Portland and Vicinity in 1959.
Funeral service is at St. Andrew Catholic church on Jan.11. Interment will
be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
